Developmental Psychology Across the Lifespan: A Drama Therapy and Clinical Perspective

45 Total Learning Hours
3 Academic Credits

Course Description

This graduate-level course examines human development from prenatal life through late adulthood through a clinical, trauma-informed, and experiential lens. Students explore biological, cognitive, psychosocial, and ecological influences on development and learn how these principles directly inform therapeutic and helping practices.

Rather than relying solely on lectures or exams, this course emphasizes applied, embodied learning. Students demonstrate their understanding through virtual sand tray work, expressive arts activities, guided reflection, and APA-formatted professional writing that integrates developmental theory with real-world clinical practice. Each module intentionally bridges research and application, supporting students in translating developmental knowledge into meaningful, strengths-based interventions.

The course is designed and taught by Dr. Tanja L. Lee, Registered Drama Therapist and Certified Tele’Drama Practitioner, who holds an Online Psychology Teaching Certification, qualifying her to develop and teach graduate-level psychology courses in virtual learning environments. This preparation ensures rigorous academic standards alongside engaging, accessible, and experiential instruction.

Beyond the Story: Creative Action Methods to Transform Thinking Patterns

Description: Beliefs shape how we think, feel, and act and sometimes, those beliefs get stuck in patterns that no longer serve us.

Whether you’re supporting clients, students, teams, or yourself, learning to identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns can open the door to greater flexibility, balance, and growth.

In this 2-hour experiential live training, you will integrate the ABC Model (Activating events, Beliefs, Consequences) with drama therapy techniques and virtual sand tray to help participants:

  • Explore beliefs through symbolic and embodied methods

  • Shift perspectives and envision new possibilities

  • Create actionable steps toward personal and professional goals

This workshop blends cognitive insight with creative action methods so participants can explore beliefs not only through discussion, but also through role-reversal and visual storytelling. Skills are adaptable for mental health professionals, educators, coaches, and organizational leaders looking to help others rewrite unhelpful narratives into empowering ones.

Who Should Attend: Counselors, therapists, and alternative-track DT-students seeking creative tools to support their clients.
